External Batteries: Knowledge and Safety

Hey Vapers, lets talk a bit about batteries today! We have everything from battery lingo to battery safety, so get ready to learn about batteries!

Battery Lingo and Knowledge

There are many types and sizes of batteries needed to power your mod. From the most common, an 18650, to a 21700 or a large 26650. What do these numbers mean?

Lets break down the most common battery, the 18650. 18 stands for how wide the battery is -18mm, 65 stands for how long the battery is- 65mm and the 0 represents that the battery is cylindrical.

Each mod is unique and needs a specific size battery or maybe even two! All of these batteries are powered by a lithium-ion and each battery contain a special amperage and output. You will need to figure out which battery suits your vaping style and habits.

"Battery capacity" is also referred to as the life of the battery based off a single charge. This capacity is measured in milliamp hours  or mAh. The larger the mAh, the longer your battery life will be. For example: a 1100mAh battery will last longer than an 800mAh battery. Which is something to consider when you are looking for you new mod.

The voltage usually between 3.6V to 4.2V shows you how much power can be sent to your mod, to power you coil, at any given time. If you are vaping at a higher wattage on your mod, you will want to have a higher voltage on your battery so you can keep getting those big clouds from your vape. The downside to this is that your battery life will quickly run out due to working at such a high level, and you will need to charge your battery more often.

It is very important to monitor your battery power on your device and charge your batteries before they are completely drained. This small act will extend the life of your batteries and save you money in the long run.

It is also important to have a dedicated charger for your external batteries. Some mods offer a pass through charging option, but it is never a comparison for charging you batteries on an external charger. Check out our selection of chargers from Nitecore to Efest for great options!

Dual Battery Vaping

Some mods like the Ijoy Captian Resin 200W Mod  or the Asmodus Minikin 3 allow for the use of two batteries to give more power or extending vaping time. Pairing two batteries together for this purpose is to make sure that they discharge at the same rate as you vape.

It is very important to keep these batteries paired together so they do not discharge unevenly! When two batteries are discharging unevenly, it could lead to an imbalance in capacity, performance and use. This could also be very dangerous as they could even become volatile. We recommend using colored battery wraps or electrical tape to distinguish these batteries as paired.

Battery Storage and Safety

When your batteries are not in use, you want to keep them in a secure place like a handy battery case. You do not want to have batteries free floating in your pocket or purse, this can definitely lead to disaster. It will also protect them from accidental contact with water or e-liquid while not in use. While this may protect your batteries from liquid, you must also make sure to avoid extreme temperatures, especially heat. Do not leave batteries in your car unattended!

When charging your batteries always check them over, looking for scratches or tears on the original battery wraps. If the battery wrap is damaged in any way, you will want to get another wrap for it, pronto! An unprotected batter can also spell disaster, so remain vigilant about checking your batteries! We sell these wraps at all of our store locations and we can offer instructions on how to apply them. It's really not that hard!
