Posted by Violet Vapor on 4th May 2019

Are you struggling with your options for your new vape mod? Want to start using a larger and more functional mods but can't decide between the smaller integrated battery mod and the external battery mods? Let Violet Vapor give you the run down on the pros and cons of both! You'll be glad you took the time to read this!

Integrated Battery Mods such as the Aegis Legend Mini and the iPower 80w Box Mod are great options for vapers who wish to switch from pod or pen style batteries to a compact larger mod. These vape mods are perfect for your pocket and offer similar features to larger box mods. They vape under 100W and they lend to a wide variety of sub-ohm tank options and High VG e-liquids and Premium Vape Juices for you to choose from!

Integrated Battery Mods are significantly less expensive than removable battery mods, and retain many of the awesome features as a larger Removable Battery Mod. They often cost under $70, so the only extra costs you will need to worry about are buying coils, replaceable tank glass and e-juice to keep you vaping! Some of these mods even come in kits that come with a tank, which can save you a little extra money.

You also have the extra pocket room because you don't need to carry additional batteries, just a charging cord! The mod has a usb port that you can charge using an ordinary wall outlet, so it's great for vapers who are often indoors. These mods recharge fairly quickly and can gain an enormous amount of power from just a 30 minute charge.

While the downsides are few, they could be a deal-breaker for some vapers. Since you are able to charge through the battery, you will want to keep from using it as it recharges. Using and charging your mod at the same time can decrease the batteries effectiveness, resulting in your overall battery life being reduced. Another small downside is that the internal batteries often have a life of 300-400 charges and once the battery life is done, you will need to buy a whole new mod. Finally, the limited wattage may effect your coil selection for your tank. You will need to verify the ohm levels and optimum wattage setting for these coils before you purchase them, so they will work perfectly in your tank.

Removable Battery Mods are a great choice for advanced vapers and those who are ready for sub-ohm vaping as well. They also have awesome features like temperature control and other modes to enhance your vape sessions. Just like the integrated batteries, you have many tank and e-liquid options to choose from. You can also choose the batteries you that match the needs of your mod. We carry several great brands of batteries from: Sony VTC6 18650MXJO 26650 and iJoy 20700. External batteries often cost $12-$16 and you can buy as many as you want to keep vaping! If you see your battery is low, just switch them out for a pair of fresh ones that you carry in your spare battery case, so you experience less down time during your vape experience.

Removable Battery Mods also allow for the option to vape at a higher level. Mod of these mods can vape from 140W to 230W or higher. The SMOK Species 2 and the VooPoo Drag 2 are two great options that are actually also available in kits, so they come with a tank that has the coil options to vape at higher levels. You can also use a rebuildable tank or a dripper where you can make your own coil set up. The use of rebuildable tanks can also be easier on your wallet in the long run.

While you review your choices you should be aware that there are a few cons with Removable Battery Mods as well. These mods can be significantly more expensive due to many of the extra features that are build into them. You may also need to buy a tank, batteries and a charger, which can weigh heavily on your wallet. Getting set up with these mods can cost anywhere from $70-$200. They can also be a little bulky in your hand and in your pocket. Most of these mods need to accommodate two batteries to power these larger mods and vape at higher levels. We would highly recommend stopping by one of our store locations to feel them in your hand before making your purchase.

With the benefits of having fresh batteries on hand, also comes the downside of needing an external charger. Some Removable Battery Mods have a usb charger, this is not always the best option to fully charge the batteries and it is recommended to use the external charger to retain a long battery life. We carry chargers from NiteCoreLuc and Trustfire to facilitate charging. Finally, when you are using a two battery mod, you must remain aware that once batteries have been paired, they must stay together. When two batteries have been used at the same time, the mod draws power from both of them and they act as one power source for your mod. It is important to not mix paired batteries because they may now have different battery lives than other batteries and may be decrease their battery in an uneven manner that can be a safety concern.

We hope that we have assisted you with your decision between an Integrated or Removable Battery Mod. If you have more questions, or would like to inquire are the features of a specific mod, please reach out to us over the phone, in-store or online for more help!
